Getting Started

NyxPost is a modern Usenet client for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It lets you upload and download files through Usenet with full encryption, automatic compression, PAR2 repair, and an encrypted vault to keep your activity private.

It's built as donationware — free to evaluate, and unlocked permanently with a voluntary contribution.

  • Step 1 — Download NyxPost for your platform.
  • Step 2 — Request a free trial key on the trial page. You'll need your Machine ID (shown in the app).
  • Step 3 — Evaluate for 3 days. If you love it, contribute via Ko-fi or Buy Me a Coffee and include your Machine ID.
  • Step 4 — We'll send you a permanent activation key manually, on our timeline.

You need a Usenet provider (a server subscription) to post or download. NyxPost is the client — it connects to your provider's servers. Popular providers include Newshosting, UsenetServer, Eweka, and Giganews.

For decompression of RAR archives you need UnRAR (free). For compression/upload you need a WinRAR license (optional — NyxPost uses LZ4 by default, which requires no third-party tools).

Licensing & Contributions

NyxPost is free to try. There's no paywall, no subscription portal, and no payment processor. If you find it valuable, you make a voluntary contribution via Ko-fi or Buy Me a Coffee — and we manually send you a permanent license key as a thank-you.

Your contribution supports ongoing development. It is not a purchase — there are no refunds, no SLAs, and no guarantee of future features. Just good software, made by someone who cares about it.

  • Trial — Free, 3 days, 1 machine. Start here.
  • Monthly ($11/mo) — 1 machine, renews monthly. Good if you want to try before committing long-term.
  • Solo Yearly ($59/yr) — 1 machine, best value for solo users.
  • Solo Lifetime ($139) — 1 machine, pay once, use forever.
  • Crew Yearly ($99/yr) — 3 machines, great for households or multi-device users. Includes self-service machine transfers.
  • Crew Lifetime ($179) — 3 machines, pay once. Best overall value if you're in for the long run.

Lifetime tiers include all future versions and never require renewal.

Keys are issued manually. We aim to send your key within 24–48 hours of receiving your contribution. If you haven't received anything after 48 hours, email support@nyxpost.com with your contribution reference and Machine ID.

Make sure to include your Machine ID (shown in the app's license screen) in your Ko-fi or Buy Me a Coffee message. Without it we can't issue your key.

Contributions are voluntary gifts to support development and are non-refundable. This is standard for donationware — you are not purchasing a product with a statutory right of return.

That said, if something went seriously wrong on our end — duplicate charge, key never delivered despite follow-up — contact us and we'll make it right.

Machine ID & License Transfer

Your Machine ID is a unique fingerprint of your hardware generated by NyxPost. It's used to lock your license key to a specific computer so it can't be shared.

You can find it in the app: Menu → License Information or on the activation screen before you enter a key. It looks like a long string of letters and numbers.

Always include your Machine ID when contributing so we can generate the correct key for your machine.

Yes — license transfers are supported for all paid tiers.

  • Crew Yearly & Crew Lifetime: Self-service and unlimited. Go to Menu → License Information → Transfer License in the app. Enter your new Machine ID and the machine being replaced — the swap is instant. The old machine is deactivated, the new one is activated, and your total stays at 3. You can do this as many times as you like.
  • Solo Yearly & Solo Lifetime: Contact support@nyxpost.com with your email and new Machine ID. We'll reset your single machine slot — no charge, handled manually.
  • Monthly: Contact support@nyxpost.com. We'll reset your activation for the new machine.
  • Trial: Non-transferable. Request a new trial on the new machine.
Your vault data is separate from your license. You can transfer your vault file to the new machine independently — see the vault transfer question below.

Yes, as many times as you want. Crew transfers are slot swaps — you always have exactly 3 active machines, just on different hardware whenever you need. There are no limits, no cooldowns, and no fees. Swap a machine, get a new laptop, change your setup — your 3 slots move with you freely.

Yes. Your vault is a single encrypted file on your local machine. To move it:

  • In NyxPost, go to Settings → Data → Export Vault to create a backup file.
  • On the new machine, go to Settings → Data → Import Vault and select the backup file.
  • Unlock with your vault password — your full NZB history will be restored.

Your vault transfer is independent of your license transfer. Do both if you're moving to a new machine entirely.

Email support@nyxpost.com and we'll reset your activation immediately — no questions asked. Include your account email and we'll clear the old machine so you can activate on a replacement.

Vault & Privacy

The vault is NyxPost's encrypted database of everything you've uploaded and downloaded. It stores your NZB files, display names, passwords, and metadata — all encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305 and locked behind your vault password.

Nothing in your vault is ever sent to our servers. It lives entirely on your machine. Even if someone got access to your hard drive, they cannot read your vault without your password.

Very little. Our license server stores:

  • Your email address (for key delivery and support)
  • Your Machine ID (to validate your license)
  • Your contribution tier and activation date

We do not collect what you download or upload, your IP address, browsing behaviour, or any content from your vault. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Yes. Email support@nyxpost.com requesting deletion and we will permanently remove your email, Machine ID, and license record from our servers within 30 days. Note that deleting your data will deactivate your license — it cannot be recovered afterward.

Technical
  • macOS 14+ — Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel, Universal binary
  • Windows 10/11 — 64-bit
  • Linux — Ubuntu 22.04+ (x86_64 and aarch64)

Partially. The app itself and your vault work offline. However, to actually download or upload via Usenet you need a connection to your provider's servers.

License validation requires an internet connection on first launch after activation. Lifetime licenses do not phone home after that. Timed tiers (monthly, yearly) check in with our server periodically to verify the subscription is still active.

  • Check your server hostname, port (usually 563 for SSL), username, and password in Settings → Connection.
  • Use the Test Connection button — it will tell you exactly what's failing.
  • Make sure SSL is enabled if your provider requires it (most do on port 563).
  • If you're on a VPN, try toggling it — some providers block certain VPN IP ranges.
  • Check your provider's status page — outages happen.

NyxPost uses Smart PAR2 repair automatically — it downloads only the repair blocks needed to fix corruption. If repair fails entirely it usually means:

  • The post didn't include enough PAR2 redundancy to cover the missing articles
  • The content has been partially removed from Usenet (retention limit)
  • Your provider has incomplete coverage — try a secondary provider with a backup fill server

If files repair successfully but still won't extract, check that you have the correct password and that UnRAR is installed and configured in Settings → File Processing.

Yes. nyxpost-cli is a headless binary included in the download that shares the full backend with the GUI. It supports all core operations: download, upload, queue, vault, config, and status.

It's ideal for servers, scripts, and automation. Supports --json output for machine-readable responses and shell completions for Bash, Zsh, and Fish.

End of Life

If NyxPost is ever discontinued we will provide at least 90 days notice via the website and email. During that window:

  • Crew and Solo Lifetime holders can continue using the software forever — a final release will remove server-side validation so the app runs entirely offline.
  • Yearly and Monthly holders can upgrade to a Lifetime license at a discounted rate during the notice period. Once the service goes offline, timed licenses expire as normal and the upgrade window closes permanently.
If you're on a timed tier and NyxPost shuts down, the 90-day window is your last chance to lock in permanent access. Don't miss it.
