Overview
NyxPost is designed with privacy as a core principle. Data collection is minimal and purposeful. We never sell your information to third parties.
Data Collected During Trial Requests
When you request a trial key, we collect:
- Email address — Used to send your trial key and follow-up communication
- Platform/OS — Used to issue the correct build
- Machine ID (required) — A composite hardware hash generated locally by NyxPost. Required to bind your activation key to your device — without it, no key can be issued or validated
- Note (optional) — Any context you choose to share
Data Collected via Support Contributions
If you choose to support the project via Ko-fi or Buy Me a Coffee:
- Payment information is processed entirely by those platforms. We never see your card details, bank information, or full payment data
- We receive only what you include in your supporter message (your Machine ID is required; any additional context is optional) plus a confirmation of the contribution amount for our records

What NyxPost Does Not Collect
The NyxPost application does not collect:
- Your download or upload history
- The contents of your encrypted vault
- Your Usenet server credentials (stored locally in your OS keychain only)
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- IP addresses beyond what is incidentally logged by the activation server during key validation
Local Data Storage
All sensitive application data remains on your device:
- Your vault is encrypted locally using XSalsa20-Poly1305
- Server credentials are stored in your operating system's secure keychain
- Settings and preferences are stored locally
Activation Server
NyxPost connects to an activation server (hosted on Cloudflare Workers) to validate your key on launch. This request transmits your Machine ID hash and key — no other data. IP addresses reaching this endpoint are subject to Cloudflare's standard logging practices. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
We retain your email address and activation status for as long as your key is active. If you request deletion, your data will be removed within 30 days — note this will also revoke your activation key.
Your Rights
You may request:
- A copy of the data we hold about you
- Deletion of your data (which also revokes your activation)
- Correction of your email address
